By: Ana Gomez Garces (B'25)
Magali Bejar (GCL 2023) was named a Rising Star at the “Women that Build Awards” organized by Globant Awards. It recognized her tireless efforts to advance “Tiene que haber algo más”, an education company with social impact that helps to close the gap between Spanish-speaking professionals and opportunities.
Since 2018, Magali has been traveling the world while working full-time. She builds digital products and started 'Tiene que haber algo más' as a podcast to share the stories of professionals who have transitioned to a life aligned with their values. Sharing new voices from around the world, along with their decision-making processes, thoughts, frameworks, and strategies, could inspire and guide others to do the same. Just six months after its launch, the podcast ranked as the top one on Apple Podcasts in Argentina and is now among the top 1% most shared podcasts globally, with listeners from over 61 countries and 96 published interviews. What initially began as a podcast and a hobby has evolved into an education and digital media company that generates social impact across borders.
"My mission is to help people to move forward with their transitions. Some of them want a remote job, a better salary, to change careers, to start studying, or to travel, but they are afraid and don’t know how to do it. Some topics are usually not talked about: strategy in career planning, risk mitigation, negotiation, strategy or digital skills.”
The Women that Build Awards provide visibility, education, and networking spaces to inspire women-identifying individuals to keep excelling, showing the power of the intersection between technology and passion. The Rising Star awards category recognizes powerful and talented women who are starting a career in technology or an entrepreneur, founder/co-founder of a startup with a business offering related to STEAM. The awardees show a high level of competence, creativity and leadership skills. Diversity and inclusion are essential values for them, which they actively try to include in their teams and business culture.
Magali embodies this recognition through her work and vision:
“The way I work towards being a woman that builds is by supporting people’s professional careers while caring about them as individuals”…. “I am always looking for diversity, so we create spaces for new voices to share their opinions and thoughts while having transparent communication.”
In the future, Magali hopes to continue building a solid, long-term company that uses her experience and knowledge to help others.
“I want to broaden my perspective, improve my personal and professional leadership, and learn best practices and strategies that can be applied to ‘Tiene que haber algo más’ to solve critical issues in Latin-American. I want to keep learning from top-tier teachers and institutions in order to share my learning and benefit others.”
"As a woman in STEM, I always felt the lack of representation and I am ready to be a role model for my audience to tell them that this is possible for them too and guide them on how to take action.”
Magali Bejar, from Argentina, is a computer engineer, social entrepreneur and digital nomad. During her 10-year career in the technology industry in Argentina and the United States, she worked as a technical product manager leading teams in remote startups with distributed employees across the globe. She participated in GCL in 2023 and her project embodies the multiplier effect of change that LALP promotes. Congratulations, Magali!
