A Regional GCL Initiative: Protagonists of the Future

ABOUT CHICAS EN TECNOLOGÍA

The inequalities in the region are many, and they are challenged in this context. Chicas en Tecnología is an Argentinian non-profit organization that works to reduce the gender gap in technology and encourages young women throughout the country and region to become creators of technological solutions with social impact. Since 2015, more than 5000 young women participated in the programs and initiatives and have developed soft and impact skills as well as technical-technological skills. In the long term, increased opportunities for women in these fields translate into greater economic success and equality for women at all levels.

In the context of the global pandemic, Chicas en Tecnología launched new free and online proposals so that the quarantine does not mean a reduction in opportunities. Women from all over Argentina participated but this time we also had regional reach (countries such as Uruguay, Paraguay, Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, and Chile) which demonstrated the need to generate more initiatives designed for Latin American women, which give protagonism to adolescents and young people. This project is part of that process, in which technology plays a central role in creating a positive social impact.

Regional project: Protagonists of the future. They transform the world with technology

What is it all about?
Free online program for women between the ages of 15 and 19 from Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Peru, Colombia, and Mexico, which seeks to close the digital gender gap through an immersive and comprehensive experience in the technological world with social impact.

The proposal will last 6 weeks and includes different dynamics: from workshops to inspiring talks with referents, where young women will be able to develop technical-technological skills, leadership, project development, and agile methodologies to create local and global solutions to social problems through different technologies. Finally, a regional network of teenagers and young women protagonists of the future will be built.

Participants profile:
The aim is to create a diverse Latin American community of women committed to transforming their reality through technology.

We will select 240 young women from 15 to 19 years old: they do not require prior technical and/or technological knowledge.

Priority will be given to guaranteeing the greatest diversity of the participants, in terms of geographical representation, type of educational institutions (public, private management, among others) and orientations (Bachelor's Degree, Orientation in Arts, Technical, among others), socioeconomic situation, interests, experiences, motivation and knowledge in technology and social impact.

Countries involved:
Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Peru, Colombia, and Mexico
