GBEL Ethos, Rules, and Regulations
As a Jesuit and Catholic university, Georgetown places special emphasis on the dignity and worth of every person and the love of truth. Membership in this community carries high expectations regarding how each person will act within and beyond Healy Gates.
ETHOS
All members of the Georgetown University community are expected to honor the following commitments in all their actions:
• A commitment to the highest standards of honesty and personal integrity both inside and outside the classroom.
• A commitment to treat others in a respectful manner, regardless of differences such as race, religion, nationality, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation.
• A commitment to open discourse and the free exchange of ideas.
• A commitment to exercise mutual care and responsibility in all relationships.
We encourage participants to get familiar with the Spirit of Georgetown as it outlines the main values that drive the university’s mission and our programs. Regardless of religious or non-religious background, we celebrate the values that bind us and make our campus community and 190,000+ alumni a force for change in our world.
RULES AND REGULATIONS
In order to ensure a successful Global Business Executive Leadership (GBEL) experience, participants must abide by the following rules and regulations.
Attendance
Both attendance and punctuality are mandatory for all in-person and virtual courses and activities. The maximum number of unexcused session absences is three. Every three unexcused tardies will equal one unexcused absence. An "excused" absence is usually related to an unforeseen circumstance beyond your control, such as an illness or a personal emergency. If you must miss class due to an emergency or illness, please notify the LALP team ASAP.
Active Participation
Active participation is critical for students to maximize their academic experience during the program. Students are encouraged to ask questions and engage in open and respectful discussions with professors, guest speakers, and peers.
Technology
The use of electronic devices such as laptops, tablets, cell phones, and others is highly discouraged during class time to promote discussions through participation and dialogue between instructors and all participants.
Other Course Enrollment
Participants admitted to the GBEL program will not be allowed to enroll in other courses at Georgetown or any other university.
Certificate of Completion
The above-mentioned items are necessary for successfully completing the GBEL Program and as requirements to obtain the corresponding certificate. The following components are taken into consideration to obtain satisfactory consideration: GBEL project development, project presentations, course readings, and assignments, as well as class participation.
Living Arrangements and Guests
Participants will be housed in hotel rooms for the two in-person components of the program. Due to the intense curriculum, it is strongly recommended that participants travel alone to Panama and Washington, DC, for the in-person residencies. GBEL in-person modules are short in time but extremely demanding regarding daily activities, ranging from early morning to evening hours. In addition, we greatly emphasize peer learning, networking, and integration among the program participants in or beyond the classroom. Having guests or family members during your GBEL in-person residencies can limit full integration with the cohort and engagement with program activities.
Non-Compliance
Failure to comply with any of the above requirements, including an excessive amount of unexcused absences, constitutes a reason for being disqualified from the GBEL Program and not issuing the corresponding certificate of completion.
